The Irish Guards

 

 

sind wahrscheinlich die bekannteste Truppe,

die einen Irish Wolfhound als Maskottchen hat, aber da sind noch andere.

Das 1ste Maskottchen

Der erste Irish Wolfhound Club wurde 1855 von Capt.Graham gegründet. 1902 hatte der Club nur gerade 3 Mitglieder. Um die Rasse etwas bekannter zu machen und auch um den Finanzen des Clubs zu helfen, hatte Capt. Graham die Idee, dem neugegründeten Regiment der Irish Guards einen Irish Wolfhound als Maskottchen zu schenken. Anlässlich der Hundeausstellung im Crystal Palace 1902, wurde eine spezielle Klasse ausgeschrieben: Irish Guards Presentation Hound Competition. 8 Irish Wolfhounds wurden angemeldet, sie wurden gerichtet von Capt. Graham, assistiert von Mr. F. Gresham und Mr. R. Hood Wright. Der so ausgewählte Hund war der 2 1/2 jährige Rajah of Kidnal (*24.5.1900, Ch.O’Leary X Cheevra), im Besitz von Mrs. Gerard. Diese erhielt für den Hund die stolze Summe von 30 Guineen.

Der Hund hiess fortan Brian Boru und tat seinen Dienst von 1902-1910
