TAILS

Injured Tails:
A good
means to protect a hurt tail are the foam insulation tubes for hot water pipes,
which you can get in DIY markets. They come in different diameters, chose one
wide enough for the tail of your hound. See to it that the injury get's enough
air, or only put it on when your dog is inside and in danger of hurting his tail
again. If the injury is at the very tip, you can fix the foam so that the tip
just looks out, so the wound will get enough air. It is very light, but most
dogs will not wag their tail as much, which is a good
thing. |

Broken
Tails
This is rare, but can
happen. Here also the insulation foam tubes do a splendid service of fixing the
tail in position. As there is no wound, the thing can be left on for a few days,
but you should check it anyway about every second
day. |

Protecting
Tails
If you have one of these
Wolfhounds that propell their tails like mad and beat doors and corners like a
drum, you're likely to have a problem one day. Here a method of fixing the tail
is shown.
|
Step
1
shows the position of
the leg. The unshaded part is the sticky side of
the tape. Begin by
wrapping tape loosely around the hock several times
Step 2 +
3
Leave a “tether” of
about 6 inches, then wrap tape snugly around tail several times, at the level
where the tail is hanging comfortably.
Step
4
To finish off, wind the
tape back around the tetherto cober the sticky
sides. It will form a
“cord”, which is stronger and non-adhesive.Finish
by wapping one more time
around hock
Check for chafing, if it
does not, you can leave it for several day |
