the Civil War Battle
of Gettysburg 1863
the 63rd, 69th, and
88th New York Reg.
were the famous Irish
Brigade.
Their
mascot was and is an
Irish Wolfhound, the
symbol of Ireland and
the essence of loyalty,
here lying mourning
at the foot of the
cross of The Gettysburg
Monument.

The
69th New York
The
69th New York Militia was formed
in 1851. After service at the battle
of Bull Run in July of 1861, they
were reformed as
the 69th New York
State Volunteer Infantry. "The
69th" was named the 1st Regiment
of the soon to be famous Irish
Brigade,
and fought with great
valor at every major battle of
the Army of the Potomac.
