The first year

October 2006

For about a week Bebhinn (pronounced Bevin) of Nutstown is now the new family member.

After the loss of Liath Cailín end of June, a new life was sorely needed in our family. Life is the right word, she has all sorts of ideas of how to redecorate our Living room. She has a very stable character, unafraid of new  things and not easily impressed if we say NO to something she shouldn't do.

When she arrived she was 52 cm and had 19 kg, but this will change fast

The first adventures

She has now taken to demonstrate, when she thinks it's time for food. She starts this about an hour before,

lying in front of the feeding stand. But as this is a hard job, she often goes to sleep at it

Here some sleeping positions at 16 weeks old

Conan/Bebhinn the destroyer

Bebhinn is like a wild bumble bee, always busy, 24 hrs a day, if she had her will.

From the beginning she made one of the small carpets I had laid out for protection her own. Slowly but surely she started to tear it to bits. As she was also interested in our antique Oriental carpet, I left the small one to her to avoid damage to the good one. (there are some fringes missing and a hole in the good carpet anyway now !)

Her 2 favourite toys are a rubber cabbage head making very loud noises and a big knitted knee stocking, filled with kitchen paper tissues and knotted at the end. All the newly bought bed sheets over the her mattresses are already torn to bits and also 2 hand towels, she caught somehow.

The positive side is, that she leaves our shoes alone, also the things on the coffee table as long as they are not edible.

At 4 months Bebhinn weighed 23 kg at a shoulder height of 62cm.

Having the official Potrait taken is.....

boring!

20 Weeks

An natural stack during an autumn walk on Nov.19th 2006

She now knows some rules and many times already follows them. Unfortunately the waking ceremony is still licking either face or feet of either my husband or me. If there is no immediate reaction, she is up on the bed and tramples all over us, until someone gets up.

On the other hand she is very good, when she is off lead on our walks, she comes when called, sits and gets a goodie of course. She understands already a lot, knows what it means, when I say "Pipi" or "Wait" or "By foot, although sometimes ignores it, but  "Goodie" of course is always understood

She has now all her teeth and           ........ tries out the white! sofa

Christmas Decoration was minimal this year! A Christmas Tree would have been defying luck!

Look her expression, she's up to more mischief

She is almost 6 months now, 70cm at shoulder

January 2007

One evening we met Berry, a Great Dane with a shoulder height of 1.04m!

Bebhinn is 6 months old now and 73cm at the shoulder

The first Snow this winter came mid- January and lasted from Wednesday till Sunday.....

.......Monday it looked like this

February 2007

Shoona

July 2007

Bebhinn is now 1 yr old. She is very solid, but ripens slowly, quite usual in the old Irish Lines. At the moment she is neither Fish nor Bird,

very puppyish still, no forechest and her chest is still wanting depth and width; her hindquarters though are very muscular.

As if she knew it was her Birthday, she allowed herself onto my husbands bed and....  was caught in the act!
